Large HDLs have a Big Job

Written by ODX Admin | Jun 13, 2023 8:35:00 PM

High-density lipoproteins (HDLs) are important for various functions, including cholesterol transport and hormone production. Larger HDL particles are linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, and their levels can be influenced by factors such as inflammation, obesity, and menopause. Nutritional intervention can boost large HDL concentrations, which is good for heart health.

However, low levels of large HDLs may increase the risk of cardiometabolic disorders. Identical HDL cholesterol levels between individuals can have different health implications, so measuring the large HDL particle concentration is more effective for evaluating cardiovascular risk.
