Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Isn't Mean Either

Written by ODX Admin | Jun 28, 2022 10:45:00 PM

Mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) is the part of the CBC test that tells you how much hemoglobin, by weight, is found in a red blood cell.

Evaluation of MCH assists in categorizing anemias and RBC-related disorders.

An elevated MCH is associated with macrocytic (large cell) anemia and iron overload, while a low level is associated with microcytic (small cell) anemia and thalassemia. A suboptimal MCH should be explored further.
