Avoid High Levels of Beta-2 Microglobulin

Written by ODX Admin | Sep 7, 2023 9:52:23 PM

Beta-2 microglobulin (B2M) is a small protein found in cells, including immune cells, and is released into the blood during normal cell turnover.

Elevated levels of B2M in the blood or urine can be a sign of increased cell turnover and various health issues, such as cancer, severe inflammation, chronic infections, kidney issues, or even exposure to heavy metals like cadmium. It's often used as a marker to help diagnose or monitor these conditions

High levels of B2M in the blood are associated with an increased risk of heart disease, malnutrition, inflammation, atherosclerosis in people with kidney disease, and poor prognosis in certain malignancies.

It is used as a marker for disease risk and prognosis, particularly in cancers and kidney disease.
